England pretty much dominated their qualification group and, under manager Fabio Capello, looked capable of winning even when playing badly. On such things are World Cups won.

However, injuries have diminished the squad subsequently and in order for England to do well at the 2010 World Cup, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Aaron Lennon and even Glen Johnson must all be fully fit.

Presuming they are back, England’s progress through the group should be comfortable.  A likely second round meeting could see them face either Australia or Ghana, which is another winnable encounter.
