How I got lumbered with this one, I’m not sure. But FIFA have Chile ranked at the 15th best team in the World and the bookmakers make them second favourites to qualify (they’re 1.62 at Bet365 to Qualify) but their opponents in Group H are Spain, Switzerland and Honduras.

To my mind, however, Chile’s position in the FIFA rankings is probably a false one – a result of geography rather than ability.  Switzerland and Honduras are both competitive teams and Chile, Honduras and Switzerland will all take points off each other.

However, Swiss football has come out of the 2nd division in recent years and I think that – with strikers like Alex Frei and Eren Derdiyok of Bayer Leverkusen -they are more likely to get out of the Group alongside Spain.

Expect Chile to go out at the first hurdle.
