June 19th: World Cup Betting Tips

By on June 19, 2010

Firstly, I feel a little sorry for Nick Lewis of this site after all his, frankly unremarkable and totally realistic, betting tips for yesterday went badly wrong. As Nick is hanging his head in shame, it’s down to me to take care of today’s World Cup betting tips.

GHANA v AUSTRALIA BETTING TIPS: SAT JUN 19th 15:00 GMT

With Tim Cahill suspended, Pim Verbeek is likely to return to a rather more traditional formation than that used in Australia’s opening match. This means Josh Kennedy will start upfront. Also back in contention is Harry Kewell, fit again after a pretty good season in Turkey.

However, I don’t really know where the goals are going to come from in Cahill’s absence. Kennedy certainly isn’t an international class performer and Kewell is, well, mercurial to say the least.

So, I’m going to suggest that this isn’t going to be a high scoring match, a goal for either side could nick it. Ghana look the more physical and athletic of the two sides and have promised to attack Australia, so I take them to win.

CAMEROON v DENMARK BETTING TIPS: SAT JUN 19th 19:30 GMT

I missed Cameroon’s opening match against Japan, but apparently they looked sluggish and out of sorts. Manager Paul Le Guen’s selection was also highly criticised, with Eto’o being played out of position and Geremi and Alex Song both missing out.

Word is that Le Guen is going to correct these errors and reshape his team to play Denmark.

The Danes have a couple of worrying injuries that might affect their capacity to get anything out of this game. Striker Nicklas Bendtner was substituted in the opening match through injury and both he and fellow striker Jon Dahl Tomasson will face late fitness tests ahead of this match.

Also probably out is defender Simon Kjaer, who has a knee injury. Without these players, Denmark lack both a cutting edge and defensive strength. If Cameroon boss Le Guen gets his tactics right, this is a match that Cameroon can and should win.
