The first knockout match takes place this afternoon between Uruguay and South Korea. Mark_S previews the action.

The first knockout match takes place this afternoon between Uruguay and South Korea with Uruguay’s three pronged attack looking in good form.

Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez looks certain to stick with his 4-3-3 formation, with Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez joined in attack by Palermo striker Edinson Cavani.

Villareal defender Diego Godin was absent for the Mexico game through injury, but – if fit – will return in place of Mauricio Victorino. However, it looks like full back Jorge Fucile will keep his place in the starting line-up.

Centre back Lugano is the only Uruguay starting player on a yellow card.

South Korea coach Huh Jung-moo is unlikely to make changes from the side that beat Nigeria in the final group game.

Cha Du-ri is set to stay at right back after a decent debut World Cup performance, and Park Ji-Sung and Lee Chung-Yong will again support frontman Park Chu-Yong.

Nigeria are already out of the World Cup, but can salvage some pride as they come up against a South Korean side who may only require a point to qualify.

Nigeria have a number of defensive injury concerns for this match with a South Korea side determined to qualify for the next round of the 2010 World Cup Finals.

Nigeria head coach Lars Lagerback will be without midfielder Sani Kaita, who was sent off for a needless challenge in Nigeria’s previous match against Greece.

Rated extremely doubtful, however, are left backs Taye Taiwo, who has a groin strain, and Uwa Echiejile. If neither is fit, youngster Dele Adeleye could deputise in an unfamiliar role.

Upfront Victor Obinna could be dropped in favour of an Obafemi Martins and Aiyegbeni Yakubu strike partnership.

South Korea coach Huh Jung-moo’s team need only a point to qualify if Argentina beat Greece and is unlikely to deviate from the 4-2-3-1 that has served his side well so far.

Monaco forward Park Chu-young will lead the line, with attacking support coming from Manchester United man Park Ji-sung and Bolton’s Lee Chung-yong.

Juan Sebastian Veron is out of the Argentina v South Korea match after failing to recover from a calf strain.

Diego Maradona’s Argentina are without Juan Sebastian Veron, who has a calf strain.

Liverpool midfielder Maxi Rodriguez is the man most likely to replace the former Chelsea and Man United veteran.

Despite a poor showing at full back, Jonas Gutierrez is set to keep his place at left back.

South Korea’s Huh Jung-Moo will bring Lee Dong-Gook back into the starting XI after the striker missed the opening match with a thigh strain.

Dong-Gook is likely to start upfront on his own in a 4-5-1 formation.

Jung Song-ryong will remain in goal after Huh dropped first choice keeper Lee Woon-jae for the match against Greece.
