Luis Suarez is suspended for Uruguay, but Robin Van Persie is fit enough to start for the Netherlands in this first semi-final.

Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez will be without top scorer Luis Suarez for the match against the Netherlands.

Suarez was suspended after handling the ball on the line in the match against Ghana. The diminutive Sebastian Fernandez is the man most likely to come in to provide some pace against a sluggish Holland defence.

Also rated doubtful for Uruguay is skipper Diego Lugano, while midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro has a broken shoulder and will play no part in this match. Also missing is full back Jorge Fucile.

Bert Van Marwijk, the Holland boss, will be pleased that Robin Van Persie elbow injury isn’t as bad as first feared and the striker is set to start for Holland.

Suspended for the Netherlands are midfielder Nigel De Jong and defender Gregory van der Wiel. Most likely to take their places are Demy de Zeeuw and former Chelsea full back Khalid Boulahrouz.

Uruguay, with Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan, take on Ghana, who have a striker - Asamoah Gyan - of their own in form.

Uruguay boss Oscar Tabarez looks set to shake up his starting XI for this second quarter final match against Milovan Rajevac’s Ghana.

Definitely sidelined for Uruguay is defender Diego Godin, who picked up a thigh injury in the victory over South Korea. Mauricio Victorino, who replaced Godin in the previous match, comes in again.

Also out is midfielder Alvaro Pereira who will be replaced by Alvaro Fernandez.

The front three of Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani and Diego Forlan will remain intact.

Ghana boss Rajevac will be pleased that striker Asamoah Gyan is fit enough to start, despite an ankle knock in training.

Doubtful, however, is midfielder Kevin Prince-Boateng, who has a thigh problem.

With midfielder Dede Ayew suspended, Inter midfielder Sulley Muntari could start his first match of the finals, after reports of clashes with the coach.

The first knockout match takes place this afternoon between Uruguay and South Korea. Mark_S previews the action.

The first knockout match takes place this afternoon between Uruguay and South Korea with Uruguay’s three pronged attack looking in good form.

Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez looks certain to stick with his 4-3-3 formation, with Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez joined in attack by Palermo striker Edinson Cavani.

Villareal defender Diego Godin was absent for the Mexico game through injury, but – if fit – will return in place of Mauricio Victorino. However, it looks like full back Jorge Fucile will keep his place in the starting line-up.

Centre back Lugano is the only Uruguay starting player on a yellow card.

South Korea coach Huh Jung-moo is unlikely to make changes from the side that beat Nigeria in the final group game.

Cha Du-ri is set to stay at right back after a decent debut World Cup performance, and Park Ji-Sung and Lee Chung-Yong will again support frontman Park Chu-Yong.

In the absence of the injured Carlos Vela, Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez will start as part of Mexico manager Javier Aguirre’s three man attack.

Also absent for Mexico is defender Efrain Juarez, who is suspended. Juarez, who has been playing as a holding midfielder, is set to be replaced by Israel Castro.

Aguirre is unlikely to make any additional changes to his starting XI.

Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez is also set to stick with the same starting side that beat South Africa 3-0 last time out. Nicolas Lodeiro returns after a one match ban, but the Ajax midfielder is likely to start on the bench.

Diego Forlan will again support striker Luis Suarez from a more withdrawn role as he did in their last World Cup group game.

URUGUAY WORLD CUP BETTING TIPS

If you’ve taken a quick look at the Uruguay squad for the 2010 World Cup Finals, you’ll be surprised at just how many of the names are familiar to you. Aside from Villareal striker Diego Forlan and Ajax’s Luis Suarez, Uruguay boast the talents of on loan Juve defender Martín Cáceres (reportedly a target for Arsenal), Lazio ‘keeper Fernando Muslera and players from top European clubs like Porto and Fenerbahce.

What this means is: Uruguay are no mugs. Better yet, they find themselves in a Group with the hosts, Mexico and France. And France, unfortunately for them, have Raymond Domenech in charge – a man who can turn a collection of world class players into a schoolboy second eleven. It’s a talent, for sure, but not a useful one!

Admittedly, the Uruguayians did make heavy weather of qualifying for the tournament, coming through the play-offs, but I’m tipping them to do well at the main event.

The strike partnership of Suarez and Forlan pretty much guarantees them goals and that should mean they will make mincemeat of South Africa and triumph over Mexico through superior firepower.

In fact, I think, with a good showing against France, they may even win the Group. I don’t think they will get much further, but that’s my outside tip.
