Suarez was suspended after handling the ball on the line in the match against Ghana. The diminutive Sebastian Fernandez is the man most likely to come in to provide some pace against a sluggish Holland defence.

Also rated doubtful for Uruguay is skipper Diego Lugano, while midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro has a broken shoulder and will play no part in this match. Also missing is full back Jorge Fucile.

Bert Van Marwijk, the Holland boss, will be pleased that Robin Van Persie elbow injury isn’t as bad as first feared and the striker is set to start for Holland.

Suspended for the Netherlands are midfielder Nigel De Jong and defender Gregory van der Wiel. Most likely to take their places are Demy de Zeeuw and former Chelsea full back Khalid Boulahrouz.

If you’ve taken a quick look at the Uruguay squad for the 2010 World Cup Finals, you’ll be surprised at just how many of the names are familiar to you. Aside from Villareal striker Diego Forlan and Ajax’s Luis Suarez, Uruguay boast the talents of on loan Juve defender Martín Cáceres (reportedly a target for Arsenal), Lazio ‘keeper Fernando Muslera and players from top European clubs like Porto and Fenerbahce.

What this means is: Uruguay are no mugs.  Better yet, they find themselves in a Group with the hosts, Mexico and France. And France, unfortunately for them, have Raymond Domenech in charge – a man who can turn a collection of world class players into a schoolboy second eleven. It’s a talent, for sure, but not a useful one!

Admittedly, the Uruguayians did make heavy weather of qualifying for the tournament, coming through the play-offs, but I’m tipping them to do well at the main event.

The strike partnership of Suarez and Forlan pretty much guarantees them goals and that should mean they will make mincemeat of South Africa and triumph over Mexico through superior firepower.

In fact, I think, with a good showing against France, they may even win the Group. I don’t think they will get much further, but that’s my outside tip.
